On our B44 the rubbing strip on the topsides looks as if it covers the hull/deck joint and I have a nuisance of a leak in that area near the bow, so I want to remove a section and seal the joint.

There is a convenient section covering the area I want to access, but before starting the job I was wondering if anyone has done this before and could let me know if the wood is glued to the hull or fixed with screws.

Thanks.

yngmar who posts here and runs the Bavaria Yacht Info website is your man as he has done this job and written it up. Suggest you PM him - he is off cruising, but looks in here regularly.

I have a 49 with the same arrangement and have removed it to seal a leak.

You do not need to remove the capping piece. Remove the stainless strips and you will see a line of self-tapping screws behind. Remove these screws and the sections of teak mouldings will come away (they might need some persuation though.

Behind this you will find the hull/deck join. Give it a good clean up, and if there is a gap in the sealant, you will see it.

Quite a simple job.
