I just purchased a Bavaria 42 Cruiser, everything seems fine, it has a Volvo Penta 55 engine, however after reading the engine manual it describes an engine alarm test but when I do the test (engine switch to on, hold down the alarm test switch) the warning lights light up but I don't hear any sort of alarm test. I have to visit and have a look behind the panel when I get a chance and see if maybe the alarm buzzer is broke or something but wanted to see if anyone here can confirm that I should actually hear something?

Thanks

Sam

If its a piezo buzzer, try banging it with a screwdriver whilst pressing the button.

Not a cure, but may make it work for a while. Replacement piezo are cheap as chips, but not from Volvo :ambivalence:

You should hear something while the key is on run position and the engine not running, i.e. before you turn it to start. The alarm test should probably also make the buzzer sound. The buzzers often die but are easy to fix. The fix is not to buy the £60 buzzer from Volvo, but to leave the broken one in place as a fancy blanking plug, pull the wires off it and connect them to a 12V buzzer from eBay, which is installed safe and sound behind the control panel (and plenty audible from there).
