Hi this is my first post over here, hoping to get some info.
I found a brand new bavaria 37 sport for a very good price, but I don't know anything about bavaria. Is this boat reliable, good quality? I liked that it has alot of room to sit in and the price is reasonable.
Thanks

Bavaria make pretty good boats, and the hulls perform well. they have started to pair back materials and cut costs recently, so it is worth checking out thoroughly. SOme of the stupid things they seem to do is not sound insulate engine bays, standard fit bowthrusters are too low powered and some of the wood trim in the cabins is not wood but coloured plastic.

On the whole though they are good boats and large for the money.

Hi luicci imho they are cheap for a reason ie built to a price probably better than a sealine, however i know a couple of people who own them &they say they are very good boats after putting right problems in the early days, seakeeping is also not bad but not in fairline or princess league

I think you can see where they save the money.. ok not saying thats terrible, per se, just a shame its a bit obvious (to me).
Boats arent usually a bargain; are you sure? Maybe its got wrong choice of engines or something? Check the manufacture date.. when you come to sell, some people dont tend to care to pay up for aboat just bcz it hasnt been used. IE, they wont pay the same for 2006 as 2007 boat, even if that doesnt necessarily make full sense. There was a performance comparison review a year or two back.. might be worth the £4 for a read. Note it was exclusively a performance review, and of course there are other factors you might care more about.

hello luicci,

I have a 2007 Bavaria 35 Sport, the predecessor of the 37.
We bought it second hand (had only 8 hours) and are very pleased with it (so far). It offers a arge cockpit with lots of seating space, also best of class (space-wise) aft cabin IMHO. Lots of storage space in cabins and kitchen, stable ride (have not been out in rought weather though), etc. Have only done 30 hours so far (bought it in Sept last year, now in winter storage) so can't tell any more so far.

I'm told that the new 37 - which I have not yet seen - is even larger inside and has a sunpad in the cockpit as well. It's nearly 40ft and has a wide beam.

Personally, I don't really bother that my Bavaria is cheaper built than a Princess or Fairline as it comes at half the price too. That said, if I could afford it, I would off course buy a more renowned brand, but I'm boating "on a budget" and that's the best (almost new) one I could get for my well earned money. When I looked at the second hand market for a Princess or Fairline, best I could get for similar money was a 8-10 year old boat and although nothing may be wrong with that, I preferred a younger boat.

If your budget allows, you might also check out the new Jeanneau 38 HT (comes at around 200K), or the Beneteau Monte Carlo (less expensive). Or likewise, go for an 5 year old boat of one of the British builders.

have made a round up on the 3 brands that Sagaerta says

I say that I see the Jeanneau as the better built of the 3 followed by Beneteau and Bavaria last
I inspected the 34 Prestige, 37 Monte Carlo and Bavaria 35 Sport
as for the Bavaria I inpected 2 models which where very well built and a third which was a hard top model was a bit crappy especially for the cables electic stuff and the parts which you dont see much of
I have also encountered some problems with Bavs in the past in some yards but as is the case it happens to every builder and it is easier to find a Bav cause they built a lot, I think production is for 2000 a year sailboat included

as for the seamanship I was impressed by the 37 Monte Carlo which is a fantastic seaboat, more then ever I could expect to be honest
the latest models constuction (GRP) wise are a bit better, then the old ones
still the looks of the new 37 is pretty good with also a good price so I would give it a try and get a surveyor to inspect some bits

The bavaria 37sport is a brand new boat built in 2008, with volvo penta engines and a bow thruster for $195,000

These are the offers i got, which i don't think are reasonable:
Sunseeker superhawk 50-2002 for 360,000 usd (the most reasonable)
cranchi endurance 39-1996 -diesel for 160,000 usd
cranchi zaffiro 24 -2000 - diesel for 150,000 usd
gobbi 375 -2001 -diesel for 195,000 usd
cranchi smeraldo 27 --2005 for 300,000 usd
meridien 459 -2006 for 500,000 usd

Luicci

Out of your list of boats I would either recommend the Bavaria 37 or Sunseeker superhawk 50. If you have sufficient budget to keeo up with any maintenance issues on the superhawk 50 it ia avery exciting boat to drive.

Ok I like the superhawk alot. Between the Bavaria and the superhawk which one would you think is more comfortable(stable) when you anchor it, meaning which one wouldn't move around the most and get some people seasick?
Thanks

The Bavaria, it will have a shallower V at the stern and will therefor move slightly less at anchor. SS will handle a sea better, so stop people being sick while going along.

What do you want most, a boat or a pontoon?

I would have to say it will be used for both. We'll mostly go from the marina to a beach resort then finishing it off by anchoring the boat and swim, barbecue,etc..

Actually I am on a budget to stay under $300k. I might go with the bavaria after all. Do you know if you could tow or hook up a jet ski on the bavaria?

Suppose you mean taking a jetski with you on board, either on the bathing platform or the tender garage ?

Think you need to verify that with the dealer.

Don't think the garage is large enough to hold a jetski. Also,
the aft swim platform is not that large but can easily be extended - See examples here to store a jetski.

Good luck,
Alain

Thanks alot segaerta that's exactly what i meant. Do you think that you could be able to lift the jetski and put it on the platform? Or do you have to get the one that goes up and down?
thanks

OK here's a question for you all: for the same price would you get a
2007 bavaria sport 38 with volvo IPS OR a brand new 2008 bavaria 37 sport with Volvo D6-330?
The 2007 bavaria sport 38 has low hours

Sorry luicci,
I'm not an expert in that field. Don't have a jetski nor an extended bathing platform /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I assume you can always fit a platform that can be lowered in the water but don't think that will work with the Z-drives. So IPS might be a better option.

I agree with Jez, would go for the 38 with IPS too. However, different cockpit seating plan with the 38 versus the 37, depends on what you want to do and how many people you want to take with you on board. Personally, if we go out with friends that have kids, we're often 8 on the boat. Don't see them sitting all around the semi-circular table.

Alain

A friend had a 30' bavaria and the most distinguishing feature was the brown rust marks all over the place from the 'stainless steel'. Oh, and the caravan style interior. Good value boats though.
