Bavaria 34 lower rudder bearing.

I recall there is a long thread on the Bavaria Owners Forum about doing this. I seem to remember a poster here may have contributed. The bearings are available from SVB24.com and others. They may be more than one depending on the year of manufacture.

On liftout last week noticed play in the lower rudder bearing. Can anyone advise how to replace? Cheers.
I have a Bav 38 and have been through all this. I have a technical note that will put you in the right direction. Send me a personal email and I'll respond.

In short, the solution is not massive but it is an out of water job.

You will find my comments on this site along with others' if you prefer that route.

Welcome to the forums!

I'd suggest you buy new bearings from Jefa, who supplied the original bearings. It would be best to replace top and bottom bearings at the same time. There's lots of information on Jefa's website, you might start by identifying your boat model on this page - Index of /ftp/old_boat_spare_parts/Bavaria

Peter Gibb's offer of a technical note is well worth taking up. There's a lot of info on the Jefa website too, including at Index of /ftp/rudder/maintenance

I'd also urge you to look at the "Maintenance" section on Jefa Rudder in particular the cautionary note on electrolysis. Be very careful when antifouling!
