Hi,

I'm looking for owners of Bavaria 32 and 34's who can tell me the dimensions of the forward and rear bunks. Trying to narrow the search for a purchase without involving traipsing around boatyards with the tape measure.

Crew range in size from 5'8" to 6'3" and of a more mature proportion ?

Thanks

Both have full size berths. I am 6'3 and have no problem with length on any of the smaller Bavarias. Like most boats, the forward bunks are tight at the front, but aft cabins have plenty of length. The aft cabins ones are a bit narrow and the inside has limited headroom - but that is true of most aft cabins in this size range. Generally the head room and turning room in the aft cabin is better than some of the competitors, some of which have transverse berths to give the impression of more space.

All 32s are single aft cabin but 34s can have twin aft cabins meaning a smaller loo compartment forward rather than aft on single cabin version. Most in UK are single cabin.

Clipper Marine have a good selection on brokerage, including a very good single cabin 34 moored near me in Poole Yacht club.

Agree with Tranona, aft cabin has plenty of legroom, just don't sit up in a hurry if you sleep with head aft as I do. I have a 2002 Bav 32 for sale if you're interested ;)

As has been said the stern cabins have plenty of length on the 34 but if you have the 3 Cabin version the forward heads can make access to the bow berth more difficult . The bow is fine for a 5ft 8 crew member but might be a squash for a longer crew unless sleeping alone diagonally . The berth cushions are quite basic thickness so investment in memory foam might assist . We sold our via Ben at Clipper and he might know of ones which might be coming on to market if looking for 3 cabin variety which are rarer but IMHO more desirable . The lifting seat backs in saloon provide option of very comfortable berths if required and option for comfortable dozing on passage if fitted with suitable restraining cloths.

Don't forget twin aft cabins leave you with poor deck stowage too; only two sole depth lockers. The 34 also has twin helms that you have to sit behind the backstay to steer.

I know, having owned a twin aft cabin 37. Lack of stowage only really becomes an issue if you use all cabins for sleeping. We converted our spare cabin to storage when living on board.

OP is looking at old style 32/4 rather than the latest model. However I have a 2015 33 with single wheel and would still have chosen that even if the twin wheel had been available, partly for the reason you state.

OK Berth Dimensions of a Cruiser 34:

FC
Headroom 1.85m (6ft 1 in)
Vee Berth 1.90 (6ft 3in) wide aft reducing to 37cm (1ft 2in) Berth Length 2.0m (6ft 7in)

Saloon
Headroom 1.90m (6ft 3in)
Port 1.90m (6ft 3in) long 63cm (2ft 1in) wide without back cushion 48cm (1ft 8in) with.
Stb L-Shaped 1.90m (6ft 3in) long 63cm (2ft 1in) wide without back cushion 48cm (1ft 8in) with. Inside (table seating) 1.70m (5ft 7in) with 1.02m from outboard to inboard on the forward length of the seat against the bulkhead.

Port/Starboard Aft cabins (mirrored)
Headroom 1.90m (6ft 3in)
Forward length 1.45m (4ft 9in) reducing to 1.12m (3ft 8in) Berth length 2.04m (6ft 8in) the aft 37cm (1ft3in) height above the berth is reduced to 24cm (9in) under the cockpit sole and cockpit lockers the height above the berth is 43cm (1ft 5in).

The 32/33/34 single aft cabin layout has a heads compartment that would shame most 40ft yachts and very good deck stowage in a good, deep locker. The twin aft cabin layout doesn't :0)
