Sounds like your new battery is bølløxed - take it back to whence it came.

Agreed its a dud, but just to avoid any rubbish that the supplier may try to tell you it would a good idea to try a known good battery just so that when they say well there must be something wrong with your boat you can say "Well there there is no problem if I use the battery from my car/ wifes car/ girlfriend's car /neighbour's boat"

How did you deduce that the battery was down to half charge?

Well i suppose not half charge, but the LEDs on the charger were back to 50% when initially connected. The multimeter showed 12. something but it should be more surely?

How long did you charge it Monday and with what size charger - ie are you sure you fully charged it?

Also is it sealed or can you get at the cells. Sometimes worth checking each cell for with a hydrometer as a dud cell shows up well.

You mention another problem - presume this 'other problem' is not a short and fried a nice new battery? - it would be embarrassing to take a second one back with the same problem!
