My boat is currently on Leros in the Dodecanese and I need to buy a couple of starter type batteries for my bow thruster bank.
I dont particularly want "Marine Deep Cycle/Dual purpose etc etc " from the chandlers as I know I'll pay the sailors premium so Im hoping to find a truck/car battery supplier on Leros or one of the nearby islands eg KOS that I could go to to buy them.
Thanks
Steve

My impression is that you have to pay the "island premium" for anything like that - prices for batteries and electrix are very much cheaper in place like Agrinio and Kalamata. Tony Cross put me in touch with an auto-electrician in Ag Nikaloas in Crete who was certainly competitive.

Steve..there is a place in Pothia (Kalymnos) where you should be able to get a couple
of car batteries. I can't remember the name, however if you walk out of town,up the main street and keep left when you get to the one way system,it is about half a click .I bought cable from them last year.

Thanks Both
Charles Thx but wasnt planning to go as far South as Crete this year
Bill, I have a vague recollection that there is a place on Leros and I was hoping that someone could confirm it.
If I cant find anything on Leros I'll get down to Pothia and take a look up the street as you suggest.

Steve, I would try the electric shop in Lakki. It is on the road leading off the prom with the children's playground on the corner. He is Australian, a very helpful guy. Probably doesn't do batteries himself but will advise. Vyv

Steve, Last winter I ordered 1 E-Nex sealed LA (made in Korea) from Evros. They supplied at the same price I had a quote from the AThens agents, - I think it was €135. These are excellent quality batteries, and are recommended to be charged at 14.8V by the manufacturers - which is high for sealed.

Why do you need 2 batteries in the bows? - my single 110 runs both Bowthruster and anchor winch. You rarely run both together, except coming stern too, but then its just letting out and not taking much amps.

Hi Chris
Agmar have offered 2 x Exide Premium (100Ahr CCA900) @ €167 ea which, even with "Chandlers premium" and "Island premium" still sounds a little expensive given that I could buy them for about 80 quid ea here
Why 2? - its a 24v thruster :)

All the best
Steve

What about one of the petrol stations up the road, Hire yourself a scooter and go for a drive. Surely a petrol station has them. There is also a vehicle franchise up near Patheni. There is also a petrol station 200meters from Evros.
