I did a search in forum but did not find an answer - apologies if this is a repeat.

I am looking at purchasing the Victron Energy Blue Smart IP22 - a battery charger with 3 outputs.

My boat has:
Old, heavy-duty metallic, noisy (but operational) 30A charger - that I want to replace with a more modern, quiet one (and safer, maybe)
a Sure Power Industries 160 Amp,2-output Isolator, too.

Here are some questions:
  1. Can I connect a series of 3 / 4 batteries to each output?
  2. As I have an isolator, am I right to presume that I will ONLY need one output from the charger to the isolator? Should I skip that and go directly from charger to 2 separate banks (service and engine)?

Further info:
Currently have 1x100AH starter and 4x94Ah Service (all four died last September, unfortunately)

Cheers!

Yes, you can connect a bank of several batteries to each output.

You could wire the charger to the isolator, but presumably your isolator only switches the service batteries. So you'd need to use a second output to charge the engine battery.

The Blue Smart IP22 is a good charger; I fitted one last year. Be sure to download the app for your phone.

As already said, you can connect the banks. I would connect directly to each bank, not the isolator. Don't forget to fuse each positive cable, close to the batteries.
