Of the 3 battery choices, engine start, leisure or deep cycle. Which is the best choice for bow thruster/anchor windless duty. The set up is a seperate battery suppling bow thruster/anchor windless in the forepeak. This battery is supplied by a heavy duty cable from the main battery bank, 440ahr, so chargers at the same time as the main battery bank and is also part of the main battery bank. So far this set up seems to work. The currently installed battery is u/s. and was a leisure battery.

So you have a domestic battery/s, a starter battery and a battery dedicated to the windlass and bow thruster in the fore peak charged with a very thick cable. A very thick cable is important, because, if you did not have enough power then you could get overheating in that long cable run as the windlass tried to draw current from any other battery in the same circuit.

But that is not you question. I would say you need a starter type battery for the windlass/thruster, as you use a fast blast of power like a starter motor, rather than a slow trickle of power like you draw from your domestic batteries.

Need more info to give a considered reply.
What current does the bow thruster/windlass take?
How much running time are you likely to give it in an operating session?
What capacity (Ah) battery are you thinking of using?
What type of batteries is the main battery bank to which it is coupled?
Are they on a smart charger and what maximum voltage do they see?
