Can anyone suggest a good source for a switchable 6A/12A battery charger that doesn't cost the earth. I have two 85A/hr leisure batts and am looking for a 240V charger, idea behind switchable is that I can both fast and slow charge??

No inboard engine, only outboard so need to keep things topped up in the marina.

Any suggestions more than welcome :-)

I've been using a Halfords charger without any problems so far (about £25 from memory).

You can switch it between motorbike & car and also between sealed and non sealed batteries. This might meet your requirements.

It also reverts to a float charge mode once the batteries are fully charged.

Re: Usa a time swicth

If you are going to leave a Halfords type charger on permenantly - it would be a very good idea to by a cheap time switch, so that it effectiveley only charges for say 2 hours per day when you are not around. - this is actually quite a good charging regime - I would not like to leave a cheap charger on 24/7.

In the price range (I think) you are looking at, the very, very, very best bet is the little Gunson. £19.95 from numerous outlets, genuine three stage etc etc etc

I bought a nifty little charger from argos, it is fully automatic and switches to trickle once charged, you can see it shut down when battery comes up to full charge.

Also it is very small, so ideal to keep on board <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/ols_prod_detl.d2w/report?prrfnbr=7505883&prmenbr=6970&type=big&thisMode=ols&cgrfnbr=774587>charger</A>

You will, Oscar, you will! And anyway it wasn't an MM original - he nicked it off someone else so I felt justified. And why aren't you out boating this afternoon. I got a 'scuse cos I'm between boats. Pity - all this lovely weather. Good Luck
