Could anybody recommend somebody to look at a Sterling Pro Digital battery charger, north Essex/Ipswich area? Launched wooden boat on Thursday, much more water intake than I've seen before and it managed to get wet. perhaps it just needs replacing but before i do I would like somebody to have a look.

That's an Olde charger Ian, i doubt even Sterling would look at that, especially if it's been swimming. Unless it's something simple, like a fuse, it's not worth paying someone to look at it, IMO.

Thanks Paul. It is old, but working perfectly until Thursday. The replacement is just short of £500, and it seems a pity not to have somebody have a look.

It's 50 amp. My main concern is it's in a place, surrounded by a Sterling Invertor & Vetus domestic pump (both working fine) & I'm not 100% sure the water did get up that far. If I had to replace if the new one was thicker/wider or the connections in a different place, it's going to be awkward, plus the remote controller likely redundant. Guys at the marina recommend Clacton Electronics, the owner used to have a Westerly at Titchmarsh and has repaired one of their battery chargers previously, so worth taking along, even if only to hear it's dead.
BTW, you're not coming over to Titchmarsh anytime in the future to do engine servicing?

That's much bigger than i thought it would be, bigger than it needs to be. What batteries are fitted Ian ?

If the guys at Clacton Electronics can't fix it, i've just taken (literally just this minute finished changing it) a Sterling Pro Charge Ultra, 30A, off of my own boat. Nothing wrong with it, i've just swapped it for a Victron charger, because all of my other charging and monitoring kit is Victron. It has the Sterling remote with it (will be different to yours). Might fit in your space if you need a new charger. Or, i supply/fit a lot of Victron chargers, they make some with a small footprint.

I might have to come to Titchmarsh in the next few weeks for an electronics refit, if that helps.

Thanks Paul. I'll see if I can get answer re the Sterling 50 amp serving a battery bank of 440 amp hours, this isn't on Storm but my motor cruiser we've moved from the upper Thames. If you had time there's both a Beta 20hp on Storm and a 62hp Nanni + a 1GM wing engine on Straight Across needing servicing.

Just to finish this, I've bought Paul's charger, but thought it worthwhile to let people know I found "Powerfix Electronics" of Little Clacton CO16 9LZ (07772 004864) very good. Down the end of a farm lane with several small units working there, not so easy to find. They took the charger in on Monday, immediately identified faults, took it apart, dried it out, relacquered the board (not sure what that means), said they cleaned up the connections, and demonstrated it working. Cost - £35. Sort of place where he fixes smart TV's (wasn't aware you could fix them) & hot tub heaters. I thought this might be of interest.
I've identified a much better place to put Paul's one so that will be going in but always good to have a spare.
