Last night my shore power battery charger suffered an ingress of water and went "BANG!"

It has two 12v outputs and is rated at 40 Amps.

Various components have burnt beyond recognition, don't suppose anyone has access to a schematic diagram for a Statpower Truecharge 40i?

If I have to buy a new one will buying 20 Amp charger (loads cheaper) have any adverse effect?

Cheers

Generally speaking, your battery charger Amps rating should be about 20% the value of your entire battery bank which gives a compromise between battery life and charging time.

Plus any dc domestic load you intend to run via your charger if it supports this function.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'm going to go with a Sterling fully automatic jobbie from Mearine Electronics in Bristol - very helpful people.

My batteries total 360AH so just deliberating over the 30A model or the 40A model - price difference £50

Can't get the wink off my post!

I have similar total, AH 3 X 113AH, Sterling recommended 40A when I mentioned I was considering doubling up on the domestic battery. Haven't done so yet.

Pleased with the Sterling so far, had it about three months and the batteries do seem to hold their charge for longer.
