Hi all

Planning to get a suitcase petrol generator.

My battery charger is a victron blue power 12v, 3 output, 30 amp

What will that be pulling for the AC side max?

my guess is around 1.5A (accoding to Ohm's Law unless I'm horribly wrong) so make it 3A for safety :D

1.5A, at 93% efficiency (according the manual) makes 1.7A max.

at OP,
I guess that its not such a small charger that dictates the power for your suitcase generator,
it would rather be the occasional water heater, electric cooker or fan heather that you might want to use,
these devices can be 2000W, at 230V = 8.7A, which still is the power of a small suitcase generator.
or am I missing something ?

Can I make an alternative suggestion? I dont have shore power and house battery power was always a bone of contention. I hate the genny with a passion and wasn't a believer is solar. Well I'm converted. I put on a 150W semi flexible 2mm thick solar panel on the top deck where the sunbed covers go and never looked back. My 3 house batteries have never shown anything but full charge no matter how much the kids abuse them. It's been so successful I've even started using my inverter again.
The solar panel actually looks good in that position, almost as if it's been painted on and does not restrict the use of the sun lounger covers or anything. Safe to walk on the works. Why would you want to run a genny to charge batteries for? Save that for when you need to run heavy duty appliances.

+10

if I was brave enough, I'd remove and sell my Victron Centaur 24/60 charger. Having 2x300W hard panels as f/b hardtop down here, I cannot remember the last time I used the Victron tbh (was two seasons ago ah and once last season for half an hour when stranded two days with horrible weather and lots of rain and 7 on board)
