battery cable terminal crimper required

Does anybody have a battery terminal crimp machine in the Portsmouth area that I could borrow for a few days? suitable for up to 60-70mm copper tube terminals - They cost abt £100 and I wont use them enough to justify purchase.

Do you really mean 60 - 70 mm - That sounds huge to me? Have you considered soldering as an alternative to crimping? I've done it successfully with a small gas torch but you do need to protect the insulation from the heat. I trimmed the insulation back and then used a heat-shrink sleve sealing the insulation to the metal tube of the terminal.

I expect that Talbot means 60mmsq as a csa. not so big, my crimpers go op to 100mmsq, unfortunately they are with me in Cornwall.

mine does up to 120mm2, also have a more compact die-type too for 50mm and smaller. You'll need a lot of space to swing the big one.

If the cables are removable, furneaux riddall will likely crimp the terminals for you.

Find a local electrical distributor, City Electrical is one, they hire these out for a reasonable fee. If you can remove the cables, any decent auto electrical firm should be able to crimp them for you. if the cable is not tinned, dip the ends in vaseline or similar before you crimp, stops the rot !

Hi. Further to your battery terminal crimpers I used the outside edge of my bolt croppers when I replaced my batteries and added a battery for my new bow-thruster, I never knew that there was such a thing as a cable crimper for a 70mm2 (10mm diam) cable. Ignorant or what. Connection was perfect for our 4 month cruise last summer. P.S. It must have been ok as apparently I am a perfectionist! Hopefully your bolt croppers are the same as mine.

We used to put the terminal in a vice and fill it with solder then lower the cable in.
