Battery alarm on engine panel

I would suggest if this problem has just started that you check the brushes and slip rings on the alternator. Probably easiest to remove the alternator. Brushes are usually under a cap (which in some cars has the regulator built in) on the back. Remove 2 small screws to withdraw the brushes. The slip ring(s) is a continuous copper/brass ring which should be clean and shiny. Clean with fine sand paper or brasso. Brushes should have plenty of length and tension on the slip rings. My guess is that bad connection onto slip rings from age and use has rendered the alternator bad at low revs. ol'will

Hi
My battery alarm on the engine control panel keeps going off when running at very look revs. Also rev counter working sporadically could they be linked ?
Any suggestions
thanks
Look at brushes and slip rings as William suggests.
Brushes are part of the regulator. Easily removed but costs an arm and a leg as a VP part. Go to an autoelectrician. They will probably have replacement brushes at a tiny fraction of the cost

Alternator drive belt ? Check

Yes tacho problem probably linked ... the signal for the tacho comes from the alternator

Hi
Checked belt cleaned terminals and seems to be working for a bit. Now if I rev over 1500 get excessive voltage alarm. ? but at least the rev counter is working
If you are now getting an excessively high voltage, confirmed with a known good and accurate voltmeter I would suspect the regulator unless you have any external / addon gizmo that could be p laying up.

If you have the Lucas A127 alternator on this engine the brushes and regulator are in one unit easily replaceable bought mine from ebay about £7 a few years ago .
Still only less than £10.
