There are many different types of battery. Start batteries if only used for that need to have high output (expressed as CCA) for starting the engine. In general a road vehicle battery for a similar size/power diesel will be appropriate.
For the house bank you need high capacity and the ability to take many charge and discharge cycles. Some people swear by basic (cheaper) flooded lead acid batteries, then there are so called leisure batteries that may stand more cycles and have enough CCA to start engines. Next up are deep cycle often sealed batteries which are specifically designed for more cycles (longer life) by for example having thicker heavier plates. AGM batteries offer the same features but are claimed to recharge faster - assuming you have the means to charge them.
Which you choose depends on what your power requirements are, space you have and means of charging - plus of course the depth of your pocket.
However, if your current types have been satisfactory there is a lot to be said for replacing like with like. For some people battery capacity and management is important - for example liveaboards and there is far more to choice than the brief summary of types and uses above. Inevitably not everybody agrees on what is "ideal" - hence the wide choice.
IMHO, you should have a look at the deeeep cycle golf cart batteries (Rolls and Trojan).
I've recently replaced 4 v.tired open truck batteries for 4 Trojan T105RE and I'm impressed and v.happy with them.
But I also have 600W solar through a Victron MPPT 30/100 keeping them full
