My cheap (Draper) multimeter appears to give reliable readings, good enough for my purposes. What does give misleading readings are the voltage readouts on my Raymarine instruments. Both my Multi and Graphic Repeater overread, one by 0.3v and the other by 0.2. Even more confusingly, they both read 0.5v less when the inbuilt lights are on. What matters is not so much the accuracy of your equipment as known vs unknown errors.
