Hi. Could someone who knows please tell me, do I need a NASA Clipper BM1 or BM2 for two batteries on a sailing boat. Just a usual leisure battery an engine battery. Charged by a diesel engine, and I'm looking for advice on extra charging. What size solar panel would be best. I don't have much drain, no fridge just usual lights, radio etc.
Thanks in advance Dave.

BM1 has 100 amp shunt. Newer BM2 has a 200 amp shunt. There is also a compact version of the BM1

They fully monitor the house battery and they now will also give a voltage reading on the starter battery as well.

Size of solar panel will depend upon the power you use and want to replace with a solar panel. With a diesel engine and modest power drain you probably don't need a solar panel at all for the sort of sailing most people do but if you want to go for long periods without running the engine you simply have to work out the power you use daily and size the panel appropriately.

A panel as small as 5 or 10 watts will keep a battery topped up while the boat is not in use .
