Just come back from 3 wks rain dodging in NW Scotland. We must have seen literally hundreds of basking sharks,to the point of not even commenting on them! Off Hyskeir we counted 28 in one group. It used to be the case that we reported individual sightings but given the apparent vast increase in numbers does anyone know if this is still the case. We seemed to see more sharks than seals or dolphins this year!!

Haven't seen any this year but usually see them few miles off N coast of Cornwall/Lands End

Not seen as many as when I worked in a cliff-top hotel at Mullion in the 60s and we woke up to find hundreds stretching across the bay to Newlyn etc during those long hot spells we used to get then

I photographed one last week, just off the shores from Whiting Bay, on the east coast of Arran.
Think it was just a young one about 10-15ft maybe, difficult to tell from land.

Cheers

Al.

No, I'm sorry, you're making it up. It's warmer now than it was then so don't you dare deny MMGW /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sorry for MOBO breaching the peace in here..... Just off SW tip of Ross of Mull early August..... and yes, we stopped counting after Staffa

In August last year we saw many B sharks in the same area, on the way to the Scillies. Some were in groups swimming very closely.

We imagine it must be their time of year for 'doin it'.

But no expert, just a spotter. (voyeur!!!)

I have a short video of them on my web site
