Greetings......first post so bear with me:cool:

Having been chucked around the coast of Essex in my late fathers Enterprise, fished off of Harwich harbour in a Shetland way back in the early 70's and having two weekends on the Broads, the latter some 12 years ago i'm not a complete novice but have never actually owned a boat myself.

I know the basics, Port, Starboard, Stern, Pointy bit up front, learnt quite quickly that you can't park it like a car and remember enough about launching so as not to completely embarrass myself but would be lacking in confidence were I to set off in my proposed new toy, particularly on the wavy stuff...or going through locks etc.,

So i'm wondering if there's a recommended day course that I can attend to help fill in the blanks?

For the record i'm looking at something like a Shetland, or a fishing/day boat of some description that I can drop in the water as takes my fancy.

Cheers...

Check out Powerboat 1 & 2 on the RYA web site. One of those may do you. Also look at the RNLI site for info about basic safety needs, & buy a set of local tide tables! Some form of chart will help you find the good fishing spots too.

There is a Basic Navigation 2 Day Course, run by almost all RYA Centres - it covers almost all you want, bit like a trimmed Day Skipper course.

look on the RYA site, or call any sea school.
