I am new to boat owning and am about to pick up a Jaguar 24. What books would be included in a basic set covering boat maintenance, grp work, electrics ?
For general boating matters the Macmillan and Silk Cut Yachtsman's Handbook is excellent.

Not seen it around much lately
Calder's "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual" is the book against which most others are judged...
Or better still ask the specific questions you want solving. You will get dozens of completely different solutions - some may even be for teh problem you have. You will also get chastised, praised, pitied, propositioned & accused. You will get a dozen unrelated comments & irrelevant opinions.
All you have to do is pick the bones out of that!
Another vote for Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0713672269/dolcetto-21
Also Calder's Marine Diesel Engines: Be Your Own Diesel Mechanic goes into more detail: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0713682663/dolcetto-21
Don Casey Sailboat Maintenance Manual is worth having too.
