Jabsco 135 SL searchlight.jpg

I want to fit one of the above Jabsco 135SL remote searchlights to the sloping front of the flybridge on my Fairline Sedan 36, i.e located between the flybridge screen and the horns as seen in the below picture.

Does anybody know where one of the bases which fit below the searchlight to keep it in the horizontal plane can be purchased from, as i have seen them fitted on quite a few boats (in particular on Sealines), but having had a look online and contacting a couple of the retailers of the searchlight has unfortunately drawn a blank.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Not sure they exist!! On the Sealines the light mount is actually part of the GRP moulding - they come out the factory like that.

Your best bet is a bit of diy I'm afraid. A good place to start is making a wooden mount and then flow coating. Alternatively a custom stainless job would look good too.

I tinkered with the idea for a bit on my boat, but ended up sticking it on top of the radar arch. Not actually the best place, as you get a lot of light spill into the flybridge which knackers your night vision!!

would one fit on the flat surface above the screen but well before the horns.
Just a thought, I have had one of these on all five boats I have owned. In 14 years of boating I don't think I have ever used one. A good torch has been more useful.

I have got one on my current boat. Went to Gosport and arrived in the marina in the dark. I couldnt see the berth numbers on the ends of the pontoon. Used the remote light to aim and could then see them. At that moment it was the best thing ever

Have done a few of these using a suitable size bucket as the mould, then trim to fit.

Unless you have a search light ex fire engine I would forget it. The amount of splash back will blind you, we have tried allsorts

with bad results, the best place we found is on the bow rail as far forward as possible.

You might want to call Wayne at Gelbrite? He is local to you, a wizard with GRP and gel and very reasonable prices. If you can't find him with a Google, PM me and I will fwd his tel number.

I can't argue with the replies saying that a fixed searchlight isn't the most used purchase to have on-board, but the couple of times i may need it, and more important to me is i really like the look of them, particularly where i want it mounted (vain and sad i know :o ). So long as i can satisfy myself that it will look right with a base made, then it looks like another little job to add to the list.

Definitely worth having. Useless as a headlight, don't even think of using it for that. But really useful when coming alongside in the dark, or for picking out a bouy, MOB, or other object in the water.

Particularly good when you're helming from inside as it always seems harder to see from down there at night. Maybe I should clean my windows... :)

On my Sealine F33 the grp shelf for the light is moulded in as standard.
On my previous Sealine S23 the light was mounted on a stainless steel disc of the same diameter as the lamp base. The disc was welded to the tubular stainless radar arch.
Perhaps you could consider having a stainless bracket made rather than trying to make something from GRP.
