Basalt fibre ------ Vs fibreglass ?

I thought that stuff was a safe replacement for asbestos. Further reading shows it as a cheaper alternative to carbon fibre. Interesting :encouragement:

Turner & Newall had a pilot plant making basalt fibres in the late 70's/ early 80's. lovely golden coloured fibres with good properties. The project was filled off as they couldn't economically source basalt with a suitably lo level of non-fusible impurities ( those block the holes in the platinum/ rhodium dies).
