Barometer clocks and all that glitters

Boats back in the water after a small refit , rigging ,sails, coppercoat, hydraulic steering, instruments, skinfittings . Although not essential I want to replace the clock etc as the old ones are tatty , looking at weems and plath but are there others to consider in the UK. Fed up with ebay .

I have a 24 year old Plastimo clock as well as a 15 year old very expensive Garrard clock. Both the typical 100mm brass nautical types. They both tarnish over time and they both have the same type of quartz movement made in China. The Plastimo one finally stopped working last month so after dismantling I fitted a new movement for less then £5 (ebay ?), buffed the brass case, rebonded the bevelled glass and now it looks all glittery and brand new again.

The weak point in the se clocks seems to be the ‘clock chip’ which fails, there did seem to be a period when there was a faulty batch, they cost about 5p each and it’s just a matter of unsoldering the old one and soldering in a replacement,
Did this on a 5 year old clock last year and it’s been working perfectly since the repair.
