What about drilling a hole in the side of a wooden scrubbing brush and screwing in a long enough piece of dowel or, better still, a suitable length of threaded metal rod with nuts and washers either side of the brush head to hold it in place.

Yeh, gona have to be that, wooden handle though, don't want to mark my slot any more than I have to.

Another thought...what about one of those long handled brush/scrapers used to clean BBQ grills you might have to extend the handle. Depends how deep your slot is.
