When the marina pressure washes the boat should it remove all the barnacles or is it up to you to do it yourself with scraper?I haven't been to my boat since it was taken out of the water last year and I wasn't there when it was.I came to antifoul it but the hull was covered in tiny barnacles It took 7 hours of scraping to remove the little blighters. I would have thought pressure washing when it came out would have saved me all that hard work.

Yes it was a poor job.I am going to complain to the marina and see if I can get a free lift and scrub later in the year as compensation. If I had paid someone to scrape it the bill would be in the hundreds.

not even grit blasting removes them. You need to scrape, sorry I have to stick up for the marina this time.

When my boat came out of the water @ Titchmarsh, they both scrape and pressure clean it. There were the odd barnacle left, but ARC blasted the anti-foul off and it is now Copper Coated :)

Scraping is part of the job, but a couple of these make short work of it:

Hi Mad boater, my boat was for a time near to yours on the hard and I noted you had a few barncles on the hull, it looked like to me your anti-fouling was not up to the job. I was there when mine was lifted and I have to say the marina staff seem very thorough with the jet wash and I only had a few barncles on the stern drive, which is normal. I don't think any jet washer will remove those tough barncles. I would recommend changing you antifouling.

I think you are right about the antifouling.I had it done by someone down there.I don't know what was used but this time we have put 'cruiser euro' International. We have also put a good coating of 'TK Line' on the props.I think lack of performance is 75% if not more is due to prop fouling. We have also antifouled the bow thruster as recomended in the hand book for the first time since installation 2 years ago (we aint very bright) wondered why it didn't work very well. Damn I thought I might get a 'free bee' that will teach me to farm the work out. Can't blame the marina then.Is it better to put the boat back in the water soon after antifouling? I think I read someware if its left to dry out its not as effective.Didn't plan to put it back in the water till the week before spring bank holiday to help with fouling.

Cruiser Uno seems popular with people on this forum, I changed mine to SeaQueen (Jotun) this year so we will have to see if it is any good next year. Newly applied antifouling will be fine for at least a month out of the water (I think it is longer, it will say on the tin). The normal rule is not to go back in the water for at about 16-24hours after application, but saying that I paint the "patches" 30mins before going to the water and not experienced any problems. Make sure you give it two coats of paint.
