Barlow Australia 16 winch

Does anyone know how to dis-assemble this type of halyard winch? There's no Allen screw, no circlip, no ring on top with holes in it. Any ideas? It needs servicing badly.

my winches are barlow. am away from the boat but i seem to remember that there is a circlip round the socket where you put the winch handle. make sure you are ready to catch any bits that drop out.

There is an Allen screw, buried at the bottom of the winch handle socket. It gets clogged up with dirt, so you may not spot it without a bit of prodding around.

Beware when you lift the cover off that the pawls may spring out.

Don't know if you got it sorted but I had a look at mine yesterday. I have two different styles of Barlow winch on our boat, collected from different boat jumbles over the years. All of them have an ordinary slot-headed countersunk setscrew holding the assembly together. It's at the bottom of the recess where the winch handle goes in.

hold a selection for different winches. I know it is in Aussie, but it is an Aussie winch, and Trevor bought up a lot of spares when Barlow finished. If they have spares available (if you need any) Trevor told me that he will send them airmail - using credit card details.

As far as I know, Yacht Grot doesn't have a website.

Thanks again for the info. It was too wet on Sat to make more progress, but there's definitely no screw at the bottom of the winch handle hole. Looking elsewhere on the web I think it make undo by depressing a catch at the bottom of the hole. If it needs spares I'll try the Australian connexion. Cheers. Mike
