Bargan Boom Brake

For those looking for a bargain I found this on t'internet. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Orsa-Marine-Boom-Brake/dp/B071CDKJNB.

If you contact the company direct you can get the larger version for £159. The SSL on the website wasn't up to date. But it's OK if you can get through.

Mine arrived this morning. It looks OK for the money.

A figure-8 descender is a lot cheaper, and works quite well.

I was considering this kind of solution, but heard they were less controllable especially on larger rigs. The review on YM says you have to leave the cockpit to adjust the tension range as conditions change. With all my other controls coming back to the cockpit I'd rather not go up front of this one.

...looks nice. I think you might need a helical groove. Otherwise you might need a lot of tension on the line to make it brake enough.

Thanks - I played with both a helical groove and different surface finishes, just need some time to finish them

I use something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/35KN-Res...Climbing-Canyoning-Aerial-Dance-/152616541387 . Rigged from mid ships cleat to the boom to a turning block on the opposite cleat with the tail taken back to the aft cleat. Once rigged, I can adjust tension from the cockpit. It works well, turns any gybe into a controlled event even when it wasn’t intentional....

Ah, should have said that’s on a 40 foot AWB.
