Morning Ian.. Med Dreaming eh

It is probably Port Ginesta which is about 10Km south of the airport, if you do a search on the web I am sure they have a site?

Thinking of going there? Berthing cheaper than Windermere!, difference will buy a few easyjet flights! and all that blue sea and sunshine............

Know were your coming from Martyn. We paid £56 return from Man. with Monarch. And saved a shed load of money on in flight Drink by using my Exec lounge pass. in order to top up for the flight. Mind you they dont implement there dress code very well, place was full of low lifes in track suits and the like. Call me a snob but I thought Executive meant smart ?
And another thing why can you smoke cigaretes but not cigars in the lounge, seems odd to me.

New boat two days and counting.

You lucky Git !
We prefered the look of Vell. Olimpic looked a tad quiet. Could have been the time or day we were there though. As a matter of interest what cost for an annual 26' berth in the Med area in general.

Re: Smart suits

Fraid not these days. Increasingly US-influenced and celeb-influenced brits know that rich people are very grungy in real life. "Executive" means hard working salary slave. No suit means you have no big meeting at the other end of the flight and you're having a nice time - the other poor sods have a job that requires them to sit in airport lounges and do work as well.

It really seems to vary where you are. Presuming you need to be near an airport with cheap flights then Spain is the most practical option. Most berths in Spanish marinas are privately owned but when I have been looking there does not seem to be too much problem renting a berth below 10m, it is the larger boats that have the problems. I found that generally the further north you go up the Spanish coast the cheaper the marina's. I found a website for one on the Costa Blanca serviced by Genoa airport that was about €1500 per year!! (Can't remember the name but again a search on the web will find it).

Quite a lot of the Spanish marina sites actually show berth prices (the one above does).

As well as Barcelona itself there are clusters of more expensive, and full, marinas around Javea/Denia and on the south coast but I believe the area south of Alicante is quiet reasonable and there are lots of cheap flights - never looked there though.

From a flight point of view, Majorca is the only viable Balearic island, I have not found any "cheap" moorings there but neither are they too offputting if you are used to paying Windermere prices!!.

My berth in Alcudia, with full services, is about the same as WMV. (my boat is a 2855 so needs a 10m mooring, you may be able to get in a smaller one but although the berths are quoted in metres length it is actually the beam that determines the cost and if you have the newer 2655 then you will probably be the same as me.

Hope this helps

All sounds very tempting but allas it will be a few years before we will be able to do it . A nice dream though.
Prices on Windermere really are high in comparison then, wonder what the average UK marina berth for 26' is ? anyone care to enlighten me as to your berth fee and location, may make interesting reading to all.

I suppose everything is relative and I don't think Windermere is any worse than many other popular area, south coast for instance. Places like Naburn on the Ouse near York , and near where I live, are less expensive.

However, when compared to some Spanish marinas, Windermere looks bloody expensive. I also seem to recollect an article in MBM last winter about comparatives between our south coast and the French channel coast where the latter was much less expensive (local goverment subsidies/ownership I believe).

Like for lots of other things the UK is expensive.

We are in Porto di Roma now and pay £3000 pa for a 37 footer. Last year in Alghero, Sardinia (which is where ccscott is now) we paid only half that. For a 28 ft assume 25% less.
I notice that Ginesta comes out at £2300 pa. Port Vell will be more (x2?) but I think worth it

£2300 for a 37 footer, I would think Ian is paying that on Windermere for his 26 footer.

Spot on £ 2339.42 to be exact, at 2003 rates anyway. Still if we did'nt spend it on boats we would probably spend it on some needless thing like Scotch , Cigars, Restaurants, Holidays etc. Oh wait a minute WE DO !

Re: Costa Brava

I meant Girona airport and the marina I refer to is L'Estatit.

I am lead to believe it is going up next year and that the discount scheme if you have been there a few years is going to be stopped. Just when I am getting near a decent discount they go and stop the bl**dy scheme.

Just my luck!!!

Lets hope its not going up too much Jim

Probably ginesta, fairly cheap, but suffers very badly with stone dust from the two big quarries and cement works just up the valley a bit. Port vell a better bet. Could have also been Sitges, which is only a few kilometers further or even Vilanova, which is a few more.
