Early May bank holiday:
Who been where?

I did Penton Hook to Henley. Very quiet. Very nice. Full sun on Saturday.

I was considering continuing upstream, putting my boat on a visitors berth at Thames and Kennet marina for a few days while I popped home on the train, before continuing onward to Oxford, but on a whim I decided to head back to PH for Monday or Tuesday.

Tiss my wife’s birthday on Wednesday. She did drive to Henley to spend the afternoon with me on Saturday but she has to do that ‘work’ thing, hence she’s at home, and I need to be back for Wednesday. ?

I am out on Wed for her ladyships birthday cruise but plan to just go up to Cliveden.

I was going to retire but start a new job in Salford Manchester in July but plan to keep boaty on Thames as my holiday home from home.

That’s a coincidence - if I read you right, both our wife’s have birthdays on the same day.

Mine wants to go to Exbury Gardens. And I’ll have to sit through Downtown Abbey at the cinema ?

Very few boats moored at Cliveden at the mo.

I'm on the launch near Windsor. Have been excused my London duties but not for long enough for a cruise so only get to use the electric canoe in the Dorney reach.
This is not an incredibly terrible outcome as it's a very pleasant craft to be using and quite likely a few hours will be wasted tomorrow if it is nice.

Back to the inner city soon enough.

Quite looking forward to August when I should be able to spend a month doing as little as possible on this wonderful River while attempting to avoid the awful sunburn one gets in the UK these days.

Not in one day, although it is possible.

I took a day and a half to get from Penton Hook to Henley, including a 4 hr siesta at Dorney lake on the way. So had I not stopped for so long at Dorney, one day from PH to Henley would have been possible.

I tend to be an early starter, and left PH at 07:30, cruising single handed and very happy to work the locks myself. Indeed, I rather like having them all to myself.

I Arrived at Dorney just before 11:30 and was going to call it a day, but got bored and left about 15:00, stopping the night in Cookham.

Day 2 saw me leave Cookham at 08:15, timed to hit Marlow lock just as the keeper came on duty, and I arrived in Henley 11:30

On the way back I left Mill Meadows Henley just after 8, again , timed to hit Hambledon Lock just as the keeper started, and arrived at Dorney 12:30. I could have easily got back to PH in the same day if I wanted.

There have been lots of rowers, with a regatta taking place on the Marlow stretch yesterday, so minimum speed and wash has been the order of the day. Just keep plodding on ignoring the joggers overtaking me ?

PH to Henley in a day, bit too much for me in one day!

The Saturday I spent standing around at Horning boat show talking to visitors, beautiful weather, and a great many people came to the sailing club to try sailing.
Sunday, after some modifications to the sailing boat went racing at Horning, 3 races in not much wind and a strong tide, except for the dinghies the 4th race wasn't held due to lack of wind.

Today, after a quick modification to the jib club, I'm building drawers today, from scratch.

Nice enough day. Quite busy.

Shame about the occasional awful idiots but other than that people generally enjoying the wonderful River is good to see.

The boating season has definitely begun.

I think a cruise up river away from the marinas is on the cards when I get some spare time.

Farmoor is nice.

Rochester to Maidstone Town Centre.
Weather better than expected.

Two of the boats refugees from the Thames both "*rooms"
The 44 recently bought by club member from Penton Hook. Beautilful boat.

Tedd lock threatened to close last night due to staff shortages. Was asked if my journey was necessary as in returning to my home berth.

Obviously it was ! Not sure what time if at all it closed.

I was motoring past Exbury Garden on Monday, up the Beaulieu River, this years azalea's and rhododendron's there are pretty spectacular

Not much going on at Allington lock on the Medway.
A few boats from non tidal heading down river to RCC for the Sweeps Festival weekend in Rochester.
About 20 boats visiting over the weekend.
Think it now £18.00 a night including power and water etc.
Fuel for members is £1.20 a bit more for visitors !
