Banjer 37 v Fisher 37?

Not all Banjer 37s are equal.
Sail areas for the Banjer range from 28m2, 42m2, 62m2, 75m2 to 100m2. The Transoceanique model with the 100m2 has an extra ton of ballast.
The original model started out as a sea-going motorboat with steadying sail to keep the rolling under control. The models with the taller rigs and greater moments of inertia are better at roll attenuation.

The 75m2 model has a SA/D ratio of 14.08; the Fisher 37 is 12.78.
The Banjer displaces 12 t.
The Fisher weighs 14.22 t.
DWL Banjer 10.21 m, Fisher 9.91 m

From the 75m2 model on-wards my money would be on the Banjer as far as sailing ability goes.

Transoceanique built in UK, so is it a true Banjer?

The Fisher 37 without the bowsprit can be under powered when sailing. Bowsprit boats from the factory had a slightly taller rig than earlier boats also giving around 1000 sq ft of sail as a cutter/ketch.

There are also changes to the interior layout of the F37 over the years with increased interior volume and better galley (down the std quarter) as years went on. A few of the last ones had an aft head, bigger fore cabin and two wheelhouse side windows instead of three and I think were known as the Fisher 37 Deck Saloon.

Here's a good video of an F37 with all the rags up:

The new Fishers are built in the Far East.

Re video: 7.1 kts in 18kts, close reaching in flat water.

With more sail area, particularly with bowsprits to balance a traditionally deep forefoot, Fischers, Watsons and Banjers can all reach respectable speeds under sail.

Our 32' Watson will easily reach 7.2 kts (hull speed) in 18kts, even when the sea is not as remarkably flat as in this video.

The most frequent adjective used to describe the performance of these types is "surprising". It need not be.

The biggest advantage to increasing SA on a traditional MS is to improve or even make possible, light weather ability. The result is more sailing pleasure in kinder conditions and a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

The June edition of PBO has published a six page article I wrote on the subject.
