Seriously ..
Acshully that was a pile so how is that different from a buoy? Am I still anchored if attached to a mooring pile rather than a mooring buoy?
I have just patented the fabulous
Mooro Anker Ball.
This is the answer to all your mooring woes. In the daytime it looks like a perfect black ball for anchoring (and mooring or just being tied to the planet while floating, and who mentioned drying moorings eh?), and yet as dusk approaches the latest tech solar energy powered LED lights up the whole sphere which transform into a translucent surface due to inductive phosphoresence surfactial resonance technology.
To anticipate new changes in the LAW (we know which ones they are!) this can be purchased in standard 12 metre LOA, giving a light with a 2NM radius, and also the Oh Wow Big Boy version which is the 20 metre LOA model giving light to 3NM radius.
Can be operated with minimal training and is automatically deployed with the pressure sensed bow rollers and mooring cleats when the possibility of mooring ropes or anchor chains in use activate the strain gauges.
See me at SIBS and LIBS, in the corner with the ladies doing odd crafts with no apparent nautical connection.
Jim, may I suggest that, as undoubtedly there will be an extensive market for this visionary product, you approach Tesco's to see if they will act as distributor?

I couldnt possibly consider Tesco's as a distributor unless Cobra's lad is there to see that it gets the right attention.
Besides in my perpetually challenged pecuniary position, I think it would be more likely to be Del Boy. and Peckham Market.
However, I note that quite a few people have managed to turn a large fortune into a small one, and may consider approaching one of those charitable chaps.
<<Surely if you dry out at your mooring you should fly the flags B and Z together ( aground but not requiring assistance ) ? >>
Are you asserting I don't know the rules, them Col Rags?? If its on a mooring, of course I don't need assistance!! Tch!
The assistance I need is the Mooro Anker Ball! Efficacious in all circumstances. Makes yer bunting flag things redundant. Coming to a super store near you soon.
"Should I put my anchor ball up when attached to a mooring buoy?"
What a shame that you had so many stupid answers to a serious question.
The answer is no. You are moored not anchored.
However, this assumes that you are in a recognised mooring area. If I was the only boat on a mooring buoy surrounded by nothing else, then I'd put an anchor ball up.
A mooring with nothing else around it would look like empty sea, so a ball would be relevant I think.
Brett - I think you missed the point (humour) of Jimi's ques. He's clearly referring to the recent notorious thread about whether you should show a riding light when on a mooring. Check it out and you'll understand why (a) Jimi wasn't expecting a serious answer and (b) why no-one was giving a serious answer!
