Balearics - top 3 places to visit

Actually don't scoff. For one night and just to see how the other half lives, everyone has to have a night out in Magaluf just once:)

My favourite boating destinations in Majorca were

Sa Calobra
Port Soller
Andraitx
Cala Mondrago
Formentor (pick up a buoy off the beach)
Cala Pi
Portals Vells

Yes thats more than 3 but there are so many good boating destinations

We had a hire car when staying at a finca in Pollensa one year. Puerto de Soller is lovely, watch out for the train! Then one day I said lets see what the attraction of Magaluf is (while we were down South, not a special journey). Blackpool in the sun, although the beach is lovely. Sat having a coffee watching fellow Brits in various forms and we all decided we were in a much nicer place. One of my staff loves the place and I have graciously allowed her a week off to go there again. :ambivalence:

For a real flavour of Shagaluf you need to spend an evening there. Its a bit of an eye opener for anyone of a slightly refined disposition but yes some people love it and go back there year after year, including one of my staff too. But he's from Doncaster so that probably explains it;)

Actually, a worse place than Magaluf is Arenal.
The marina at Arenal is lovely but as soon as you get outside the marina gate, you are confronted with IMO is a German version of Magaluf but 10 times bigger.
We took a wander along looking for a quiet place for a snack and a drink, eventually ending up back in the marina's bar.

I didn't realise you employed Jeremy Clarkson.

Oh, btw, thanks for knocking us out of the FA Cup via a flukey OG. At least we can now concentrate on staying in mid-table and focus on several more years of mediocrity. :encouragement:

Flukey? Personally I thought it was a superbly crafted goal! As for mediocrity, I'm guessing that mediocrity is the last thing you'll get with that headcase Italian mafioso in charge. Thank heaven our Italian seems a little less hot headed;)

Yup agreed. Despite Arenal being one of the nearest cruising destinations to Palma, in 5 seasons we only visited once and vowed never again but as you say, perversely the marina itself is quite elegant

the only time i tried to get into Arenal they said no. It is one of 2 times ever in Mallorca I have been denied a berth!

I wanted to go for a few hours as taking the boat was cheaper than a cab - there is a huge water park close by that the kids love!

There isn't that much space for you or us in Arenal.
Strong winds in Palma Nova so we phoned them in Arenal and they said that there would be a berth available after 12:00 that day.
So we went but even then, they squeezed us in next to the slipway.
Once in, we were a bit cheeky - our yachtie friends followed us over and anchored off the marina - tendered in and pretended to be our crew so got use of the swimming pool - one friend even collected some water in his dinghy whilst we were "washing" our boat!!
But that said, you didn't miss much - the pool and the yacht club was good though - nice Menu del Dia (from memory)
