Has anyone come across/own a watermaker by Italian company baitek?
I am looking for a small, low power unit for the ARC, looking at Spectra and Baitek which both seem to use similar technology, just that the Spectra unit costs the earth!:D:

I bought one of the small 25 litre a day Baitek units last year for exactly the reasons you say - all the other makes seemed so prohibitively expensive!
I had seen them whilst in the Med, where they seem quite popular.
My unit was used nearly every day for 8 months, and worked fine.
I was in two minds as to whether we would need a watermaker (only two of us) but have to say once you have one it would be hard to live without it!
I am not an engineer but it seems very well constructed, and was also very easy to install on my Hallberg Rassey.

Many thanks for everyones help - I went for the Baitek 25 litre/hour model which I purchased from a company in Southampton - they even specially adapted it to fit my boat and installed it in half a day. Works great and uses hardly any power. (also suited my budget!)

I know this question was posted some time ago, but I recently fitted a 60L/Hr version on a Lagoon 450 for use in Croatia.
On the journey down the membranes failed and were replaced in Sicily by the manufacturer (based there). In Croatia both lift pumps failed and had to be replaced. It is now leaking from several of the plastic snap connectors.
Very helpful people everywhere, but not a good buy.
Nick
