Bag or davitts ? a tender question

I have just removed my davitts. I found they made entering and leaving locks difficult as the tender would rock about and hit the sides of the lock.

And without the tender I had these metal poles sticking a few feet out of the back of the boat making manovering in tight spaces difficult.

At present I have a rigid tender which I'm going to change for an inflatable which will sit on it's side on my bathing platform and be held up with some bungee clips and rope.

Thanks for the replies so far , I'll do a single reply to all in case the post count watchers are around /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

davedpc - Hadn't thought about snapdavits but mine has an outdrive lifting leg so it's not easy getting anything on the transom unless it's either side so it won't rest close to the stern anyway , good idea though

mjf - same reply really , but mine is an old Birchwood so I don't have a cockpit door I have a three sided canopy with three zip up type doors , mooring stern to with the outdrive would be a bit difficult

jezbanks - I like the idea of an easy launch / recovery and the idea of snap davits is giving me other ideas about hinging , it's quite heavy as it is so recovery might be easier that way

jhr - I hadn't thought about that , I was thinking about making room for a compressor for dive kit , hmm , a possible

benjenbav - not an option for me I'm afraid , the only sunbathing positions Birchwood thought about when Trevera was built was on the foredeck or coachroof , and if anyone's on the coachroof while I'm underway they get a right rollicking , and I'm thinking about anchoring more than marinas so I'd prefer to have the tender ready , or easily inflated / deflated

SimonA - the most I'll manage for a bathing platform is a small area either side of the outdrive but I see your point about manouvering , are the davitts looking for a good home ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dave

the bathing platform goes ABOVE the outdrive

Also useful for removing [--word removed--] from your prop or even change

the prop.I would not own a boat without one

cheers Joe

Oh yes I did , you got an individual reply /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'be been working all day but I replied to you last night

Joe , I'm probably having a blonde moment , but how does the outdrive lift if there's a bathing platform . This is Trevera before I started work on her , although she is sporting her lovely new canopy made by Boston Canopies , no personal involvement , just thought I'd mention her /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Even now I've seen it I don't know how it works , but I'm liking the idea of a platform if I can do it , it would certainly make it easier to get on after a dive , and cleaning the prop as Joe suggests would also be a lot easier . It also looks like it would keep the tender relatively dry I hope

Is that docked or stuck in a hedge?

I like the idea of having seven different designs and sizes of fenders. Makes it easier to replace one that goes missing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Any pics of refurb progress Dave? How's miss Ellie going as well?

Perfectly moored in her own little mooring Chris /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif the reeds are cut to fit and reduce the tension on mooring lines when the river's in flood /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

As for the fenders , we have a few nutters on the river that can't control thier boats so it's a case of the more the merrier , and if I used the nice new ones the buggers would soon nick them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
