Need to change backstay tensioner as existing T handle kit is us and cant get into it easily to repair it. Thinking of adapting single BStay to an inverted Y with blocks etc. Anyone any suggestions on design of rig.
Having trouble sourcing plate (saddle) for joining single wire to 2 wire arms to deck
Backstay is 1x19 8mm about 15m long
any ideas how far above deck this saddle should be
Thanks
Keith

The saddle should be arounnd 2 metres above the deck. You could use a single shackle but 2 plates with bolts would be better.

backstay can be tensioned by hauling down a pair of pulleys on a plate sucgh that they force the Y shape together as they pull down to increase tension. This is most common with mast head rigs where the backstay is more critical to mast staying up.

With fractional rigs where backstay is not so critical a pulley is put in the bottom of the backstay. A wire then runs from one side up through the pulley and down to near the other side where a tackle provides tension adjustment
This later is easier with moe adjustment but can leavee no tension on the backstay if released. goos luck olewill

Just to explain more clearly. The method where you squeeze the legs of the Y together mean that with tensioner right off you maintain a minimum backstay tension. The pulley method can give a no tension (no support) backstay if it is released.Which may be a worry with masthead rig. olewill
