Hello,
The backlight on my Navman Tracker 5600 has become dim. Even in shade I really need to get up close to read things like SOG, COG and light characteristics. Chart, land, water and features contrast is good and boat cursor is clear. I have performed a factory reset and it improved a bit. Checked all the settings, back light on, up full, played with the settings and it dims, night view comes on. Last season it was working as expected, over winter it was stored in the chartable, not on deck and when stored on deck, always has the cover on when not on passage. From first installation this year it has poor back light although I thought it was getting better the longer the item was left on, but that could juts be due to my eyes getting used to the dimness. In bright sunlight it was very clear, now it is not.
The device is old, at least 15 years old. Do the screen eventually fade out anyway and make it junk? Any tips or methods to fix this? Some comments on the issue on the link below talking about tubes, transformers and water ingress. I would not have the skill to identify the components but could give it a go, maybe, with a bit of guidance.
Navman 5500i Backlight repairable?
SOLVED: Navman 5500 gps backlight dim but set to max - Fixya
SOLVED: Display can hardly be seen even with backlight set - Fixya
The plan is to replace plotter, but not until end of next season as I was planning on new alternator and A-B charger this winter. Decisions decisions? Do you think it is fixable,
Thanks in advance,
