I have 50m 10mm chain on my main anchor but need additional rode for a) Extending the scope if necessary. b) A kedge and c) Perish the thought, a tow rope. We have a 10 ton, 11m, wheelhouse ketch with lots of windage. My thoughts are to get 50m of 16mm polyester three strand to serve all three scenarios but am concerned about the bulk. Thoughts please.

good idea. But probably even better to have 40-50 meters of 16mm multiplait for A&B, and separate 20 or 30 meters of 18mm floating line for C.

With much the same requirement, but for a 3-ton boat with 50m of 10mm chain, I recently purchased 50m. of 18mm 8-plait nylon which I had supplied on a plastic reel - which was much smaller than I imagined, at 35cm x 29cm diameter. The cost difference between 16mm and 18mm was £10. The plastic reel would be the same size. What I gain for £10 is considerable....

Oh, and it may be someone else who needs the tow.... 'going equipped' with Lloyds Open Form is not inappropriate in a 10-ton ketch!

Thanks, food for more thought. I was surprised though that with a bit of searching multi plait is affordable and solves the bulk problem somewhat.
