OK, SWMBO has given sailing a shot, but after years of mobos, she hates it. So, we are coming back to the dark side, though must sell our lovely Gibsea 33 first. Really fancy an S37 again - not in a position to go for an S48 or similar, even though we loved our last one. Kids inheritance? Pah!!

Welcome back.

I can see how going everywhere tilted over at 45' doing 5kts could become a bit wearing after a while.

Hi Mike,

Have a look at the S38, we were nearly tempted a couple of months ago but decided to stay with what we have for a while, after all we've only had our current boat for 14 years!!!
With the S38 you need to make sure that the hull has had the strengthening work done but that aside it gives an amazing amount of space for the size of boat and nicely fitted out too.

Sailing is great fun, but similar to your situation, not for my wife, hence our mobo.

Enjoy your boat hunting. The S37 has an amazing amount of space, but don't discount a flybridge.

We've had a flybridge, and she didn't like that either. Mind it was an F33 which she found too "tippy" - she knows all the technical terms. She once told our BTCC chief designer that the Early Vectra we were having trouble making competitive was because it was too "whippy"! See what I'm up against? (Oh, and she won't fly with me either, because the thermals make the aircraft too "bouncy")

Yes, nice boat, but Sealine's first attempt at vacuum bagging the lay up on the S38 was a disaster - always put me off them.

It wasn't so much the vacuum bagging, more that insufficient hull stiffening underneath the lounge seating was problematic.
Those that were repaired / reinforced at Desty's have been fine.
And yes, the space & interior accommodation you get with an S38 is as good as it gets, equalling some interiors from boats one size up.

Good judge your lady wife. Mind you, the early Vectra struggled to be competitive in a 3 legged egg and spoon sack race:)

You can pick up late S37s (blue dash and last of the line interiors) for very sensible money now.
Early S38s are well under £100k, so nice late S37s are in the £75-£80k range unless the owner needs a reality check or still thinks it's 2008

I don't know what your budget it but i reckon with you could probably get an early SC35 for close to £100k. There is a 2008 in Wales asking £115,000 so not out of the ballpark completely. Very spacious compared to the S37/38 and with the advantage of newer kit and the HT

We're now in our '70's and relying on pensions and investments (not offshore sadly!) We have a realistic budget of around £80k, which is why we think the S37 will be just the job. We have had two S37's over the years, and know them well, and not ready for something like a Nimbus. Yes, the SC 35 would be great, but beyond budget I'm afraid.

S37 sounds ideal then - should get a lovely late one for £80k

Hope so - there's a nice one available but it has AD41's, which I guess would only be adequate. Mind, they were one of Volvo's most successful, simple and reliable units with a 19 year build span. Another has KAD44's, but is more expensive. Probably immaterial 'cos we've got to sell the Gibsea first.

Hi Mike and welcome back to the dark side:) We used to have the Pearl 50 on the pontoon at Swanwick......the Pearl has gone now and we moved to Malta but if you are ever out here we have something else you both might enjoy a ride/drink on.
Afraid it's not a Sealine though......

Regards
John

I had an S37 with AD41's. It wasn't a rocket ship of course, but didn't feel underpowered, 29 kts max, cruising mid twenties.

Hi Nicho,

Welcome back. I remember you in Yarmouth in 2010 when you had your S48. Your good lady took a tumble I believe that shook you both up naturally. Wishing you no similar occurrences.
