My daughter has one of these on her Macwester which (she tells me) leaks when she "pumps it". I have seen the price of kits for these and just wondered if any owners know if there is a cheapish solution? eg "O" rings or suchlike. Sorry for the lack of precise details, if you can point me towards a particular possible problem I will look closer at it. TIA Peter.

Try nipping up the gland nut but do not overtighten or the pump will become difficult to operate. Failing that replace the gland packing.
I've found that regardless of what you do there is generally some slight weeping past the shaft.

I have a couple of these units onboard when the pump leaks it is often the leather washer at the base of the pump cylinder, this is easily replaced, I have always replaced with like for like from local plumb store but I assume a modern synthetic alternative of the correct profile would suffice.

Depends which pump is leaking (flushing pump or discharge pump) and the specifications of both. There have been several different specs over the years, the latest (post 1992) combining gland packing and a lip seal. I've got one of those but it is still prone to leaking. If a properly adjusted pump is leaking despite having servicable packing material and a good lip seal then it could be the shaft itself that is worn or damaged.

You've already been pointed towards "Spares Marine" website - you can download a complete manual (in .pdf format) from there. Spares are expensive and I haven't been able to find cheap supplies.

I hope the repair goes well.
