BA9s Bulb?

My deck floodlight uses a BA9s lamp. Currently it does not have one and I do not have the old lamp.. I want to fit a LED lamp but cannot remember if the fitting takes opposite pin lamps or offset pin ones. Doe anyone here have a late 1990s Jeanneau and know which type I need? My boat is a Jeanneau 45.2 from 1998 and I think most Jeanneau boats of that era had the same combined deck floodlight and steaming light fitting.

The BA9s bulb has the bayonet pins opposite each other, and has a single contact.
 
If it's the same halogen steaming / decklight as mine suggest not bothering with LED as it's an exposed bulb and likely to expire prematurely! One advantage of filament bulbs is that they are self drying!

It's the only bulb I have ever had to replace on the mast in many, many years. It still lasts 5 years or so.

PS: You may find that the metal part of the bulb is still in there and the glass has detached, exploded or been stolen by gulls.

It was probably a 10 or 20 watt miniature halogen bulb

Hopefully not Read and others if you prefer . Probably not a mini motorcycle indicator either
But it is a BA9s bulb to replace a 10/20w att miniature halogen bulbs in combined masthaed/ deck lights

It wont have been a 2.5 watt caht light bulb either

and the series 41 did not have a BA9 bulb It has a 50 wqtt sealed beam

As other posts have advised a BA9S lamp cap has a 9mm diameter level index pins and a single electrical contact.

20W halogen deck lights are fine but the rub is on a boat, the 20W lamp uses a lot of battery capacity and becomes very hot. Over time, with atmospheric oxidisation doing its part, thermal degradation and corrosion of the lamp holder electrical contact often arises resulting in flickering or complete lamp failure. I suggest you consider replacing the BA9S lamp with an LED alternative which will reduce the load current by 90% and avoid the issues described above. Also consider using a good quality contact gel on the lamp and lamp holder contact, it helps minimise further damage due to contact oxidisation and will protect the exposed lamp holder from water penetration.

Thanks everybody. I just had a vague memory of having seen offset pins on the one that failed, but it is definitely a little 9mm diameter job in the deck floodlight which has an exposed reflector. The steaming lamp part is enclosed and works, so I have never looked to see what bulb it has. I do have both a BA9s 10 watt halogen and a BA9s LED here at home so I will take both to Turkey with me and try the LED first.

However, if I remember correctly the BA9s bulb as used in aquasignal series 25 deck light has a special fitting peculiar to Aquasignal! I replaced mine about 3 yrs ago and I had to get a genuine Aquasignal - not cheap if I remember correctly. It was 10 halogen I think
