OK - I tested the starboard trim tab ram on a 12v battery at base by connecting wires 1 & 2 and is working ok

I reconnected up to the junction block - reading 10.5v ( same as port tab ) but port tab works and starboard doesn't.

my only guess is that it is a poor contact and it is not getting the required current or am I missing something.

I was going to run a 5 way cable from the control box to the power block to eliminate possibility of chaffed wiring / bad connector. is this sensible ?

boatyard are waiting to launch her but I'm not putting her in until it's resolved.

I presume you are aware they are cross wired so the port switch lowers the starboard tab.

Just thought I best mention it in case you are checking the wrong rocker switch

Are your tabs Eltrim? have now had 2 boats where the outside station buttons have packed up.

If anyone knows how to fix these it would me most appriciated, last time I changed the controls, worked but seems a bit of overkill for the sake of a dodgy button.

I have had this problem - its usually just the buttons themselves. If you take the control panel out it is possible to replace switches with similar type of push to make buttons. Contacts on the back are just soldered to wires.

Sorry to hijack the previous posters thread, was waiting for him to make another postie on here.

Mine are Bennet, one pump for both tabs, port side seems to work ok (motor makes whirring noise) starboard makes very faint whirring noise) and this is the result clicky
trip to portsmouth and back listing to starboard all the way.

Rocker switches (carlings all look fine no corrosion as under sun cover at helm and no leaks there). Connector close to trim pump all looks nice and clean and siliconey so dont think its there. Have just bought a new solenoid to see if that works but cant try it till next time at boat..............bloody boats !

Although I would like to take the credit for this bit of fault finding ( and I dont really know until I've fitted it................its really Pete at PH Marine (bennetts agent on [0]118 9404419 ) who suggested it. Someone else posted his details a few days ago very helpfull chap
Best of luck

I changed the switches on mine and it works fine now.

Ordered them from Rapid Electronics (no association) cost about £10 for four, even got the coloured ones.

As has already been said, it is easy to strip the box down as long as you know how to use a soldering iron.....

Better than paying £150 for a new unit!

Do you have the link or part number for the actual part for Rapid Electronics?

I wished I had known, purchased a new eltrim head unit about 5years ago because of a faulty button, however I kept the old unit so I'll have a go at replacing the button.

Thanks.

Farnell also do the switch.

Do not assume a switch, I repaired one last year, and it was a relay that had failed, this is also a common reason for failure on auto units.

tested the wiring this afternoon and everything is OK

so i guess it is either the switches or relays. I may as well do both while I've got it apart.

Does anybody have the Farnell or Rapid Electronics part numbers please ?
