They can sell you whatever you need for your house, garden, and lots of other things.

They can sponsor world class superstars and their fantastic boats

BUT they can't ensure that a website stays operational when it's most needed. There will be thousands of people trying to get the most up to date information and commentary, but none is available.

I know it is run by another company, but its still part of the overall project and somebody should have taken responsibility for making sure it could support the demand. If they didn't realise it was going to be so popular, then there was a disconnect in their planning. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

All IMHO of course!

um, i have not had a problem? Praps other grab it in front of you? But i have seen it plenty of times, incl today/thismorning.

Being fair, it may be nothing to do with them, but your route, or servers supplied by others. Computerwise, this is the great thing about the internet - usually, no single person is to blame. Altho of course that also means that it's everyones fault if it's crap....

Not according to the Sunday Times, they cant

Article yesterday reckoned that B&Q has lost sight of its UK customers as well as its website!

I haven't been able to get into ellenmacarthur.com all morning - Page Not Found everytime.

Yeah I know I am slagging off the sponsor when its somebody else's problem, but if they want to take the glory then they have to take the crap that goes with it.

What on earth is she doing?

Does she want to win or what? The boat speed seems very low, and has done so for the last couple of days?

Re: B&Q can do (almost) anything

I have been following Ellen since the start have it on in the back ground all the time never, had a problem connecting, been slow on the odd occasion, on 2 meg Broadband.

Re: Not according to the Sunday Times, they cant

I can't see that - B&Q are by far the best DIY shed in my area - way better than Wickes - they sell everything I can get Travis Perkins , mostly at a better price, and are open till 9pm.

Re: What on earth is she doing?

177 miles to go, VMG required 4.0 knots and she's scooting along at 11.2 kts at the moment.

The record is in the bag , we just need a grandstand finish tomorrow to make the lunchtime news.

agreed. I spose they can spend loads on research but this project seemd pretty good value for a few mill really - plenty of upmarketish practical feelgood stuff - a brit doing somehting worldbeating that the french are mad keen on seems pretty good idea for french-uk group imho.

Re: What on earth is she doing?

Yup .. but 200 miles to go for the last 12 hours??? Suppose right timing is required!

Re: B&Q image

She's turned out to be a very canny investment for them, though I think the original decision to sponsor her stemmed from the fact that the then MD of Kingfisher (B&Q's parent group) was a yottie with a big Swan?

Re: What on earth is she doing?

Hear hear. The bay of Biscay in February is not noted for being a piece of cake to sail across, so I have my fingers crossed (hence teh typing). It was at 50 miles out that Mike Golding thought that nothing else could possibly go wrong....

I've been on the site 4 times this morning, no connection problems but, not surprisingly, a little slow at times even on Broadband. What do you expect. miracles!

Re: What on earth is she doing?

Right timing is not a problem. I suspect that she is reefed down a bit in case a squall comes along and takes the stick out. Good seamanship in this situation.

Re: B&Q image

that sounds plausible: he'd have to be a nutter to get into sailing in the first place and having established his nutty credentials he gives someone else a few million quid because they want to make an earnest attempt to kill themselves, several times.

dunno his name or boat tho.
