Hi - anyone anyone expereince of a Zeus 3 in a marinepod style housing (mounted at the wheel on a pedestal guard)? Concerned about overheating, particularly in direct sun, in the Med, eventually....

It also says :-

Ventilation
Inadequate ventilation and subsequent overheating of the unit will cause unreliable
operation and reduced service life.
Ventilation behind units is recommended for all units which are not bracket mounted.
Examples of enclosure ventilation options, in order of preference, are:
• Positive pressure air from the vessel's air conditioning system.
• Positive pressure air from local cooling fans (fan required at input, fan optional at outlet).
• Passive airflow from air vents.

Hence i’m interested in people’s experiences of mounting in an enclosed box and operating in direct sunlight somewhere warm (e.g. 40 in the shade)

Also:-
“Avoid locations where
the screen is exposed to:
• Direct sunlight.
• Prolonged rainfall or floating water”

....those last two are a somewhat comically in conflict with mounting at the helm !

They're simply covering themselves...

Countless thousands of Med-based boats have plotters in the cockpit, in some sort of enclosure.

Sailed from Ireland to Bayona on a Jeanneau 42 with a Zeus at each helm, and my wife sailed from Gran Canaria to St. Lucia on her and spent a week there on the boat. It was November, so not as hot as it might get in full Summer. They survived, although I'm not aware of whether or not there were any dedicated ventilation arrangements in place. The consoles, AFAIR, more or less backed onto the cockpit lockers.

If you are worried - just vent your air-conditioning system through to your 'pod housing'. ?

They must be mad (and are unreasonably covering themselves).

How many racing yachts are going to follow those suggestions.

We have the earlier iteration to the Zeus 3 - but its on the bracket and our helm station is protected from the sun (or melanoma would have taken its toll)

Yes we have one and have lots of overheating issues. It gets so hot you cant touch it and then stops working. Have to power cycle the unit to reboot it. They told me to lower the brightness but then we cant see the screen.
