B&G new to old

Tinley electronics have a little box of tricks that converts 0183 so that older B&G analogue instruments will work with new kit.

I've yet to see this in practice and wonder if anyone has any experience of it.
If so do you attach the tinley box direct to the instruments or do you have to use the old Hornet (in my case) processor.

I can see you have had no response to this thread, but keep it up as I would love to know the answer as I am considering moving up to the latest B&G from my H1000 set up.

I did look into this about two years ago, having a mixture of Hornet 4 and H1000. During the following season my log impeller was broken during a launch and the wind transducer bearings seized. One of the H1000 displays began to fail due to air entering the case. It was then that I discovered that there are no spares available anywhere for these parts. Tinley advised that they do not keep any. The analogue to digital converter would have been money down the drain. I bit the bullet and bought Triton, which are brilliant.

Spoke to Tinley today.
Their box relies on the old processor being in place,

So as long as you have a 0183 output from your new kit their box will convert the output to the same system the old B&G sensors used to send to the Hornet and H1000,
Their box costs £300 but I have four displays in very good nick so I think its worth a punt as another triton will cost about that and I will loose my lovely needles rather than digital readout.

I agree, I was very attached to the analogue dials of the Hornet 4. However, I must say that the Triton simulated analogue display is excellent, no jerkiness in the needle movement. We are now quite used to using them on wind and log, with digital along with the graphic display for depth.

I have been using the Tinley box with a new log transducer for three years now. All my very old B&G stuff soldiers on sans problems, other than the depth cockpit readout that somehow sticks around 10' sometimes.

I too have just questioned Tinley about using their magic box (NMEA to B&G Analogue converter) so that I can keep using the Synchro Gauges. They have just informed me that I would need a box for every gauge. So for 5 gauges (wind speed, direction, mag direction, depth & boat speed) that would cost some 5 x £350 = £1750. It's not going to happen!!
