Just setting up our (new to us) 2016 Beneteau Oceanis 38 which has a suite of B&G kit. I've changed the boat name on the Ofcom site and have a new ships radio certificate (keeping callsign & MMSI). The change of ownership is currently being processed by the Register of Ships.

The AIS had been in silent mode for almost two years (entire period of last ownership). The switched pair wires were not joined, in fact looks like they hadn't been touched since install so it wasn't being forced into "stealth mode". After about 20 mins, the boat started pinging an AIS return at it's current location but despite changing the boat name in the AIS-500 PC configurator (and confirming it had been written to the AIS-500, the usual marine traffic/vesslfinder apps/website are still reporting the old name of the boat.

Does it take a while for the free apps to populate or is there something else I need to do in the B&G (Zeus 2) plotter?

I seem to think I've found a new setup takes time for the online databases to display the actual name..

If you're correctly visible on neighbouring real receivers, let us know how long before online websites are up to date.

I think they'll get there in a few hours..

That's much appreciated. I couldn't find a nearby boat today with a pukka AIS receiver to see what they saw. I thought it might take a while to populate. Many thanks for fast replies!

Do you have either VTS or Harbour master nearby? They will have AIS and will often report to you if they are not too busy
