change from targa 34 to phantom 42

Thanks chaps, all very good reading.

JFM thanks for the additional images, thats precisely what I wanted to see.

I must say the Ph42 would suit us, I do like the extended bathing platform, we use the one on our T34 a lot when playing in the lagoon. I also like the idea of a larger Tender too, our Zodiac 2.6 is getting very tired. Mind you I do like the garage on the T48 at EBY! Always a compromise unless you can spec., your own new boat I suppose!

We berth stern-to to a port finger, so access to the port quarter with a larger tender would be fine.

I am not too bothered riding a bit bow high, it sounds as if it may help to reduce spray which is also good, you can always drop down if you need to.

I am not a speed king, a more sedate speed is good. I must say though I really do like, and will no doubt miss, the T34's handling and performance.

I removed a load of weight/tender etc., into the paneole before taking a short trip with 6 adults on board to Las Fuentes (28NM south of SCM) last year.

Stayed there for a few nights, predicted F4/5 later on route back to port, so left early.

Flat sea for 90% on the journey, clean bottom and polished props (from the bathing platform, I will miss that) and registered 43 knots when passing Peniscola! We arrived at SCM just as white horses were building in the lagoon, and later in the marina! 43! I had thought the boat had a top end around 39....

No response from Fairline yet!

Tricky when you have a couple of good options. The T48 (I just looked at EBY's) is a fantastic boat. Classic styling, still bang-up-to-date looking. Probably the better med boat overall? Bigger hull so better passagemaker, super layout, EDC engines so more efficiency/clean burn/data, whereas the tamd63p are non electronic, mechanically governed

The only downsides to that t48 are delivery cost (though you could drive it there; I believe your neighbour Hurricane knows the way!) and you'd have to fit airco and passerelle which is £15k kinda money. But if it's in budget it would be a fantastic boat.

Just a couple more quick points on ph42: there is hardly any space on upstairs dash for a big plotter. We had a Simrad specially flush fitted by letting it protrude below the bottom of the dash, hence we got a nice big colour screen. Point is, you have to be creative, but you can do it, so don't be told "no" by the shipyard. There is loads of space for screens on the lower dash. The other thing is that flybridge table stows easily, in about 20seconds, under the starboard flybridge locker, under the for-aft bench seat, if you want an "open" flybridge

Yup and I haven't been 100% complimentary about my T48 on this forum either but fundamentally it's an excellent boat. No problem trucking it to the Med. I trucked mine back from La Rague to Chichester thru Peters & May on a return load basis for about £3-4k in 2004 (can't remember exact cost). No messing with radar arch either. Just plonked on the truck

Truck would be loads cheaper then. I just went back and found the papers for when my Sq58 was delivered by ship about a year ago. It was just shy of 23000 euros, sheesh. I think they charge by lengthxbeam footprint, so the t48 is 70% of that, say €16k, but still loads more than a truck

Flybridge boats are more of a problem and more costly to truck because of their height. I had my Ferretti trucked to Port Napoleon near Marseille from Holland when I bought it and they removed virtually the whole flybridge, radar arch, helm station, railings etc which was a bit scary to be honest but they seemed to know what they were doing. Total cost was about €8000 in 2005. Not sure the Sq58 could be trucked given it's height?

I hah a price the season before for our P67 at £28,000.
Fuel was just over £20,000 - a bargain!!!!

I know - the wear and tear etc - but ..... much more fun.
