Due to the inclement weather I am being forced away from Poole this week and am taking to the road for a tour of Britain with SWMBO and an eleven year old........

One night somewhere near Windermere seems a good bet, then Oban maybe for another before calling in on family in Edinburgh then home.

Given that we won't exactly be staying for long price/value is probably the major consideration rather than scenery/location - ie we will have a nice drive round anyway.

As ever recomendation appreciated

right thank Col - not quite what I planned but I will have enough Bpoints to get to the Poole Mulled wine and mince pies do in December!

Almost depressing admitting boating defeat for the whole week isn't it - role on crystal clear skies millponds and zero degrees in December!

Without wishing to sound rude what budget are we talking ? Do you want a B&B or a Hotel. Finding accomodation for one night around Windermere can be difficult however I can give you suggestions if you give me the above.

You could try www.laurelcottage-bnb.co.uk have not stayed there for a number of years but I think it is still good, it is in the centre of Bowness but has car-parking I believe, not sure about rates.

If you are looking for a good Italian Restaurant try Villa Positano (015394 45663) you will proably need to book. I will be in there tomo night if I can get in. Think they are closed Wed.

Duncan,

If you're looking for something informal and cosy then I heartily recommend The Woolpack Inn at a village (blink and you'll miss it!) called Boot in Eskdale. Its in the heart of the Lake District close to the Hardknott Roman Fort.

Its run by Chris Morrison on 019467 23230

Type the name into Google and you will get pics and further details.

Good Luck,
Alan

We used to go to this area year in year out when I was a young'un - spectacular scenery. Check out Josefina de Vasconcellos, an "international renowned sculptress" who still lives nearby, who just turned 100 years of age...
