B and Q palm sander

I have a cheapo palm detail sander, McAlister from B&Q which has been absolutely brilliant. It cost only 15 quid. However, it has no started shedding sanding sheets and, on examining the 'hooks' on the machine, they have become very sparse so don't grip the sanding sheets very well. In the past, I have restored the grip by brushing the base but think I have thus removed some hooks. I don't imagine that spares are available for it and would like some suggestions for restoring it's grippiness. (Apart from buying a Makita). Do better makes suffer the same problem?

If the old backing comes away cleanly..my bodywork materials supplier do a replacement 'hookit' stick on repair..did my Rupes long bed sander with it.

I notice that Screwfix does some 2" wide Velcro tape - I wonder if that would do the trick.

If it's not older than a year I believe they will change it - I took 3 cheapo generators back as they all died from various ailments over period of 6 months.

Good luck with that.If they are anything like LIDL/Parkside they will expect you to endlessly buy their backing plates that have the velcro on them like you were a drug addict addicted to morphine,the whole things a bloody racket :disgust:

If you can buy that velcro stuff separately that will be the way to go :encouragement:

How about an update ghostlymoron if you get the stuff to work practically?

I get rid of the hook system and use heave duty carpet double sided tape . Never but buy the pads to use with the hooks ,I buy good quality sanding paper by the reel and using the manchine base as a footprint cut out my own .

Some progress. Took it back to B and Q, no receipt or proof of purchase and out of warranty anyway so no refund or replacement. They gave me the number of MacAlister who said that model (MPS130) was no longer supported. The guy did however give me some advice - cut the Velcro hook sheet off with a Stanley knife, get some Velcro sheet from eBay and glue it on with contact adhesive. This is what he did with his.
So now Velcro removed using Swiss army knife, new stuff ordered off eBay (£2) and looking forward to getting it done for nominal cost.

Velcro arrived this morning. Easily cut with scissors and Stanley knife. Stuck on with Impact adhesive, seems to hold sanding pads well so I'm extremely chuffed.
