As most of you know the correct courtesy flag hoist for the Azores is the Azorian flag over the Portugese flown from the starboard spreader. Those of you who have tried to track down this Azorian flag will find it easier to purchase a live DoDo!
I have come across one company that would be willing to produce 'a high quality printed cloth ensign with lanyard' (their words not mine)
If we could club together and order say 25 then the price would be £10 each or £7.50 each for 50.
They would need 2 weeks to complete.
Due to work commitments I am unable to take this on but if anybody wants to co-ordinate this the phone number for the company is 0151 298 1007

Hello,

We bought an Azorean flag on arrival but if you wanted to get one in advance try contacting the main chandlers in Horta - Mid Atlantic Yacht Services (a google search will take you to their website).

Mid Atlantic Yacht Services are very helpful and they are much better at languages than most Brits! Sure they will send you a courtesy flag if you ask them.

Alternatively try Cafe Sport - they could probably fix you up with a courtesy flag and you might like one of their own rather lovely flags which are blue with a sperm whale on them.

Good luck!

Role up! Role up!
Git yor luverly Azorean courtesy flag ere!
Easy wipe clean plastic.
Each one with hand crafted brass 'oles.
Stands out clearly in no wind (not suitable for use in wind over 5kts or sunlight)
Yor Azorean friends will welcome you wiv open arms once they see yor bootiful flag.
Skillfully hand crafted in any size (up to A4)
Discounted for JAC08 only £45
Why stop at courtesy flags? You could fly a picture of your favourite pet. Or maybe the skipper (so the crew know who's in charge).

Role up! Role up! ...

Portugal, Azores (Budget)

Açores, Região Autónoma dos Açores

Fabulous low-cost flags printed onto 75 denier polyester in bold, clear colours. These flags are designed for indoor/sporting use but may also be flown outside for short periods. Finished as standard with US-style metal eyelets/grommets.

These flags are not sold as colourfast and should not be washed/laundered
£3.99

Budget: 5x3ft / 60x36in / 152x91cm

At 5 feet by 3 feet, you could always use it as an extra sail :-).

In 2008 there was a very helpful person at Praia running around organising bits and pieces for us. He provided both Portuguese and Azorean Courtesy flags for 10 euros each. He was a very useful person overall - a sort of mobile Mid Atlantic Yacht Service without the crush that there is a Horta.

Thanks. Got it at last. Aint computers great. Do you know that they are bringing out a phone that you can walk around with and even take in the car ! Soon you'll be able to get 5 or even 6 channels on the telly.
regards
Malcome
